Open Day Moved To July 21st

The Bulls have brought forward this year's Open Day by a week to July 21st.

The Bulls are looking for volunteers for the day. More details on the official site here.

Watkins Speaks On Scottish Move

Departed Bulls winger Marley Watkins has spoken to the Inverness Courier about his move north.

Pictured in the paper by Inverness Bridge, Watkins told them: "Once the opportunity to sign for Inverness arose then I couldn’t turn down playing in the SPL. I just thought it was a step up and I’m relishing the challenge.
"There was other interest in me from the English football league, but I felt the SPL was a good standard. It’s top flight football. You get chance of going to places like Celtic, which is big.
"I saw that Inverness just missed out on Europe last season, so hopefully we can go that little bit extra next season and get into that top three."

Bulls XI To Visit Taunton

Taunton Town say that a Hereford United XI will visit them on Tuesday, August 6th.

The 7.15pm kick-off will see the Southern League side, who feature ex-Bull Alex Jeannin amongst their ranks, entertain the Bulls at their Wordsworth Drive home.

Cox Confirms Clucas Capture Close

Mansfield boss Paul Cox has confirmed that the Stags are close to confirming a deal to sign Bulls winger Sam Clucas.

Cox told their official site this lunchtime that the deal was on course, with the player telling his Twitter followers he had missed his flight home from holiday.

It is understood that the two clubs are yet to agree a fee for the 22 year old.

News Round-Up

Salisbury have put assistant manager Mikey Harris in temporary charge after Darrell Clarke left the club last week. A club statement says he will be in charge for two weeks while interviews are held for Clarke's replacement. Dartford have signed defender Matt Fry for the coming season. The 22 year old signs from Concord Rangers, but spent the 11/12 season with Bradford after loan spells with Gillingham and Charlton while a trainee at West Ham.

SPL side Hearts have confirmed they are to go into Administration with debts of £25million. The Edinburgh club are expected to incur a 15 point penalty, with most of the money owed to companies associated with bankrupt owner Vladimir Romanov. Kidderminster have signed winger Dior Angus from Solihull Moors for the coming season. The 19 year old, son of former pro Terry, played more than 30 times for the Conf North side last term.

Southend have appointed Dave Penney as their new assistant manager. The former Doncaster and Bristol Rovers boss briefly had Bulls boss Martin Foyle as a coach in 2011. Aldershot forward Danny Hylton, who was made redundant by the club, has signed a two year deal with Rotherham with an option of a third year.

Coventry's Administrator has picked a bid associated with SISU to take control of the club again. Paul Appleton said the bid, led by three former club directors, offered the best return to creditors. Fans have criticised Appleton's handling of the Administration since being appointed by SISU in the first place.

Lincoln are reported to be lining up former Mansfield striker Nick Wright as a replacement for Crewe signing Valdane Oliver. Wright, 25, started only four Conference games after signing from Kidderminster last summer and is claimed to want a return to Aggborough after scoring 15 times the season before. Former Bull Ashley Sammons has signed for Worcester for the coming season. The former Birmingham trainee spent part of last season at St Georges Lane before injury ended his season.

Macclesfield are reported to have agreed a deal to sign defender Michael Thomas from Evo-Stik side Leek Town. The 20 year old was previously a trainee at Moss Rose under new manager John Askey, making ten first team appearances before leaving last summer. The Silkmen have also agreed a new contract with winger Jack Mackreth, with the 21 year old having started 18 times in the Conference last season.

Crewe "Blown Out The Water" By Mansfield Clucas Deal

Crewe assistant boss Neil Baker has told the local press the Alex were 'blown out of the water' by the finances of the deal Bulls winger Sam Clucas has agreed with Mansfield.

Baker told the Crewe Chronicle that the former Lincoln trainee had been a big part of their plans for the coming season, but the Stags put an offer to him that they had no chance of competing with.

The League One side have also lost out on the services of departing Aldershot forward Danny Hylton, with Rotherham also outgunning them financially.

Clucas is expected to sign the deal at Field Mill when he returns from holiday.

Ex-Bull Ferrell Jailed After Drugs Conviction

Former Bull Andy Ferrell has been sent to prison for four years after being convicted following a £1.5million drugs bust.

The former Newcastle trainee, 29, told the court he got involved in the trade in a bid to clear gambling debts, but the prosecution claimed he played a 'significant role' and was involved in the supply of cocaine and amphetamine.

Ferrell was one of ten sent to prison for a total of 44 years, with the leader of the group jailed for eight years.

Bulls Open Day July 28th

Mod Night Raises £4,500 For Club

The Bulls are £4,500 better off after Friday's successful Mod Night.

Club photographer Steve Niblett organised the night, with local band XL5 joined by highly regarded cover band The Jam DRC to entertain over 200 people in the Starlite Room.

The club is also to host over 2,000 schoolkids over the next couple of weeks as the ground hosts the Crucial Crew workshops, which promote healthy lifestyles and safety in general life.

The club previously played a part in proceedings with the Football In The Community, but will now host the event that was previously based at the Racecourse.

Pompey Set To Match Bulls' L2 Budget

Fan-owned side Portsmouth are to start the coming season in League Two with a £1.2million playing budget.

That figure, similar to the sum spent by the Bulls in exiting the division at the wrong end 12 months ago, is quoted in the local press during an interview with new Chief Executive Mark Catlin.

He believes the figure is mid-table at best, with the likes of Bristol Rovers, Chesterfield, and Newport claimed to be spending heavily. He told The News: ‘There is a general disbelief of what we are working under in regards the budget.

‘The perception of Pompey is a few years ago they were winning the FA Cup and in the Premier League. Surely they can’t be on that budget?

‘The problem with a lot of the other clubs is they have rich owners, even at League Two level. To own and run a League Two club on a relatively small gate you cannot just be a millionaire, you have to be a multi-millionaire.

‘Most of these clubs, even small ones, are operating on million-pound plus losses which are either being propped up by the owner, a cup run or a player sale. A lot of clubs go into the start of the season knowing they are going to lose a million-pound plus.

‘At Pompey that is not the model, we want to be self-sustaining so our budget is basically what we can afford.’

Catlin also reports season ticket sales at the club of 5,300 - saying the club is bucking the trend of falling sales at other League Two sides. The Fratton Park outfit are 5/1 favourites to win League Two, ahead of 9/1 Fleetwood and 10/1 Chesterfield.

News Round-Up

Alfreton have signed released Cambridge defender Michael Wylde for the coming season. The 26 year old ended last season on loan at Tamworth, and also had a loan spell at Telford. The Southern League has named Calor Gas as their new sponsors. They take over from Evo-Stik after they asked to quit their deal a year early.

Kidderminster's Supporters Trust is to bring up the subject of Jon Harris' appointment at the club at the next club board meeting on Thursday. Fans have expressed concern at the history of the former Shrewsbury, Wrexham, and Macclesfield man. Stockport have made two further off-field staff members redundant in a bid to halt ongoing losses at the club. A statement says that just six full time staff remain on the admin side of the business.

The FA of Wales has received heavy criticism after two reformed clubs were barred from re-entering the Welsh pyramid system. AFC Llanelli and Barry Town United were formed after their respective clubs folded, but the pair will now have to enter county leagues after a 13-2 vote against their acceptance. Llanelli, who qualified for Europe two years ago but folded under massive debts, are unlikely to take that route while Barry, whose owner pulled the plug despite the supporters successfully running the club, are considering their options.

Macclesfield have extended their discount period for season tickets for another week in a bid to boost sales. Director Andy Scott says the club have sold 25 of their 200 target since their Fans Forum last Thursday. Former Bulls striker Nathan Elder has signed for Dover after leaving Ebbsfleet. The former Brentford man netted 16 times last term, mostly in the first half of the season.

Wrexham boss Andy Morrell says budget constraints mean he will test youth players Steve Tomassen, Leon Clowes, and Kyle Parle in pre-season before deciding whether to sign a defender to replace Martin Riley. The trio had loan spells in the Welsh Premier last season but only Clowes made any appearances for the Dragons, while a move to resign released veteran Chris Westwood is unlikely.

Cambridge have released goalkeeper coach Lance Key for financial reasons. Director of Football Jez George says they will likely sign a loan keeper from a Football League side who will be coached by his parent club, while the club's youth keepers will be handled by the Community Trust's under 16 coach. George also revealed that only boss Richard Money and physio Greg Reid were being paid directly by the club, with the rest of the backroom staff being paid by the Trust.

Barnet have named Dick Shreuder as their 'Head of Coaching'. The 41 year old is the third Dutch coach at the club and will work alongside head coach Edgar Davids, and previously played briefly for Stoke in 1997. Southport have released defender Chris Lever by mutual consent. The 26 year old is unable to commit to the training regime new boss Alan Wright wants to implement.

Lincoln have scrapped early bird prices on their matchday admission. Terrace tickets will cost £16, with Stand £18, as they did without the early discount last term. Barnet striker Jake Hyde, who handed in a transfer request at the club, is reported to be a target of York. The 22 year old scored 14 times last term.

Shots Debt Rises To £1.4millon

Aldershot's total debt has been put at £1.4million, up from the original figure of £1million.

In a report to shareholders, the Administrator says he is in exclusive negotiations with one of three bidders for the club with a CVA proposal to meet the Conference's 100% payment demands set to go before creditors on July 1st.

Of the £1.4million figure around £325,000 is owed in player wages. Former manager Dean Holdsworth is also listed amongst creditors, claiming £40,000 following his dismissal, along with several other football clubs who are mostly owed sums for loan players. All of these sums would need to be paid in full within 12 months of a CVA being agreed.

Directors loans total £600,000 with current chairman Shahid Azeem owed £200,000 and former chairman - and majority owner - Kris Machala owed £160,000. The taxman is owed £50,000, while the Administrator has already racked up over £100,000 in charges since coming into the club in April.

Shots fans have taken to message boards to question whether the club is worth saving given the repayment demands placed on them by the Conference.

Luke Graham Looks Forward

Luke Graham Being Interviewed At Grimsby Last January
In an extended interview with BBC Hereford and Worcester, Luke Graham has said that he pleased that he's signed another contract with Hereford United and is looking forward to his extra responsibilty at Edgar Street.

"It's always good to get things sorted out well in time before the season starts," said Graham.

"I'm going to enjoy my responsibilty as captain, I'm going to enjoy my extra responsibilty of coaching which I think is coming at the right sort of time for me.

"I think Hereford is one of the bigger clubs in this league and I didn't want to swap that for a club with new surroundings, new managers. It's never guaranteed to work out.

"As a person, as a footballer, as a coach, I think the right place to be is at Hereford this season."

Terry Goodwin then asked Graham 'how the coaching thing came about.'

"I've known Martin (Foyle) for a few years and he's well aware I've done all my badges and my licence.

"I like to learn about the game and keep learning. I've always been keen to add strings to my bow.

"Last year I had the task of getting everyone on board and getting the team spirit going and there were a lot of times when I had chats with the management over certain areas. That was above the normal role of a captain. I think the gaffer knew I could add value and he could trust me.

"It's not going to be a massive role that takes me away from my football but at 27 I've hopefully got my peak years ahead of me.

"It's a bit of defensive coaching, I love keeping clean sheets and keeping it tight at the back.

"The defenders we are bringing in will be very young, we can't afford experienced players, that's where my job comes in, trying to pass the experience I've had to the younger players.

"If the gaffer needs me to watch a game and I've got the time, then I will do."

Graham feels the club has turned the corner after last season when finances reached rock-bottom and players and staff had to wait for their wages.

"Season ticket sales have been amazing.

"When we all left in April and everything was up in the air, when there's uncertainty you really need to stick together.

"The fans buying so many season tickets has helped the players. 900 people already coming to games makes a massive difference to decisions.

"Knowing how small the wages are going to be this year and the budget is not going to be as big, if there is a shortfall we're only taking of a couple of thousand whereas last year there were times when we were £30K short."

Next Graham was asked about his call up to the University squad which is going to Russia next month.

"I heard about it quite a while back and I went over it with the Gaffer.

"There will be a massive rang of players, there might be a few gems there in our university squad who might be looking to move up to full-time level.

"By time I come back I could have played in eight games, I might need a little rest. I'll miss the first few weeks of pre-season, there will be three or four weeks left."

Finally with all his committments including studying at Stafford University, Graham was asked if he had any time to rest over the summer.

"I went to America with my girl-friend. We did a road trip from San Franciso to Vegas.

"Not getting paid wasn't the right time, I probably spent a bit too much that I didn't have!

"But I needed it after last season."

Fans Support Extra Revenue Sources Says Keyte

Hereford United chairman David Keyte has said that he believes supporters accept that the club has to raise more revenue from different sources. And he is hoping that both the new '1939' debenture scheme and share issue will help.

"I was very encouraged at the share-holders meeting where a number of people spoke up along the lines that it has been a long time in coming," Keyte told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"We do need to change the financial structure of the club."

Several directors and supporters who have helped the club with loans through the past year or so have indicated they will consider exchanging some or all of their loans into shares.

Meanwhile consultant Stuart Blake, who is helping the club with fund-raising, told the Hereford Times that he had received some interest in the '1939' scheme.

"There has been interest locally, from London and even from overseas,” said Blake.

"We have a target of 70 and there have already been 20 or 30 expressions of interest."

Finally Luke Graham has acknowledged that wages at Edgar Street will be lower than last season.

"Wages aren't going to be great but we are going to get hungery players that want to play for the shirt and want to play for Martin (Foyle)," he told BBC H&W.

Luke Graham In British University Squad

Hereford United defender Luke Graham has been selected for the British squad which will take part in the 2013 World University Games in Kazan, Russia, next month.

Former Bull Steve Guinan is the squad's assistant coach.

The games take place between July 5th and July 17th.

Walker 'Pleased To Be Coming To Hereford'

New signing Dan Walker is looking forward to working with Martin Foyle at Edgar Street.

"I’m really pleased to be coming to Hereford," said Walker.

" I want to make a place in the starting 11 my own. Martin did a really good job here last season, and he’s said he wants to push on and have an even better season this year.

"I’ve signed because Martin is a good manager, he’s shown faith in me to bring me in and I want to repay him for that.

"This is a big year for me, I want to prove that I can get 40 games under my belt and I want to get as many goals as I can."

Salisbury Boss Quits For Pirates Job

Conference newcomers Salisbury are looking for a new manager after Darrell Clarke quit the club to take over as assistant manager at Bristol Rovers.

The 35 year old former Mansfield and Hartlepool midfielder originally arrived at the club as a player in 2007, taking over as manager in 2010 and guiding the club to two promotions after their demotion for financial problems.

Assistant boss Mikey Harris, also a former Whites player, is expected to stay with the club.

News Round-Up

Port Vale boss Micky Adams claims his current budget is a 'bottom six' one for League One. The side have sold 5,000 season tickets for their return to the division, with owner Norman Smurthwaite promising to increase figures to stop the Valiants from returning back to League Two. They have been linked with Macclesfield defender Thierry Audel, who is out of contract at Moss Rose.

Aldershot have been pushed out to 200/1 by bookies for the coming Conference season. BetVictor have slashed their odds for a bottom four finish from 6/1 to 11/10 since the AGM. Forest Green are favourites with 10 of 14 bookies quoting odds, with Luton favourites with two others, and the last two quoting them as joint favourites.

Barnet face ongoing concerns from residents about the first team's move to play games at their Hive training ground. Local Harrow MP Bob Blackman has organised a meeting, in addition to one this week from the local residents association, over concern about parking, noise, and other complaints. The Bees recently submitted an application to extend the alcohol licence on the site to 1am while the local paper, which charmingly describes the Conference as 'the top tier of amateur football', suggests the club will not be allowed to play at the ground if they gain promotion to a 'professional league'.

Coventry's Administrator has had four firm bids for the club by yesterday's deadline. Miscreant owners SISU have lodged a bid, but it is unclear whether a proposal from ground owners ACL was also submitted in time. Lincoln defender Andrew Boyce has signed a new two year deal with the club. The former Gainsborough defender had been reported to have attracted interest from a pair of Football League sides.

A Tale Of Two Forums

Two sides with differing fortunes held Fans Forums tonight.

Over at Macclesfield, former Directors Andy Scott and Mike Rance told fans that the club had amassed a debt of £460,000, had 42 players on it's books under 'expensive' manager Steve King, and Iraqi owner Amar Alkhadi had been 'difficult to get hold of' with a string of bills, final demands, and County Court Judgements piling up against the club.

They reiterated the need for more funds to get through the summer, warning that if they reached only half of their £90,000 target they would have to drop to part-time status. They hope to sell enough extra season tickets raise £40,000 of the sum, having already sold 475 this summer after clearing 580 last term.

The club faces a make-or-break EGM tomorrow to vote through proposals to hand ownership to a new Community Interest Company.

Meanwhile at Conference champions Mansfield, owner John Radford is continuing to spend the cash. They will enter League Two with a break-even figure as high as 4,500, having racked up an average of 2,757 this term, and have spent £150,000 bringing Field Mill back up to Football League standard.

Radford has also purchased land for a new training ground, and hopes the club can go straight up as champions again.

FITC Staff Depart

The Bulls have announced that their two Football In The Community full time staff have handed in their notices to work for Cardiff City in the area instead.

Jamie Edwards and Steve Brotherwood will promote the Premier League newcomers in Monmouth and Herefordshire rather than the Bulls.

The club is now seeking applications for replacements, with details on how to apply on the official site here.

Shots Fans Hear Trust Bid Proposal

Over 300 Aldershot fans packed a local hotel last night to hear from the club's Supporters Trust about its bid to buy the club.

The Trust told fans that it had received 800 expressions of interest in investing in their bid to buy the club. They are looking at securing £500,000 in order to make a firm bid, with pledged funds being held in an escrow account until sufficient pledges had been received.

Attendees were told that the club had expected a loss of £300,000 for last season, but gates fell below expectations and losses spiralled out of control following Dean Holdsworth's sacking in February. The club's Administrators were budgeting for 1,940 gates for the coming season after managing an average of 2,271 last season.

Meanwhile, Kidderminster have announced the appointment of Jon Harris as General Manager. Harris left Macclesfield at the end of last week after acting as their Chief Executive, and also held positions at Shrewsbury and Wrexham.

Final Mod Night Tickets Available

The final handful of tickets for Friday's Mod Night are available from the club reception.

On the night both the Starlite Rooms and Addisons will be open only for ticketholders, with a barbecue pitchside. Doors open at 7pm, with the first band on at 7.45pm.

Walker Had Best Strike Rate At Luton

The local Luton press have interviewed new Bulls signing Dan Walker, revealing that he had the best goals to minutes ratio of any of their forwards.

Walker netted every 190 minutes on the pitch, ahead of ex-Bull Stuart Fleetwood (194 mins), England C man Andre Gray (209 mins), and Scott Rendell (265 mins).

He told Luton Today: “My goals to minute ratio was the best at the club.
Fitness-wise I felt I tired a bit in games. When I did get a start I wasn’t sharp or fit enough.

“I would score a goal but maybe could have scored two or three goals in the game. I would have just loved to have had a run of games to show the fans and myself how well I could have done.”

News Round-Up

Alfreton have signed striker Kristian Ramsey-Dickson for the coming season. The 23 year old had a brief spell with Burton, and ended last season trialling with Chesterfield, but has spent most of his career in the lower reaches of non-league. Reds chairman Wayne Bradley says the £30,000 they will receive from their 20% sell-on clause in the transfer of Aden Flint from Swindon to Bristol City will go straight to their playing budget.

Grimsby say that keeper James McKeown is not leaving the club this summer after speculation about his future. The 23 year old was named in the Conference Team of the Year and Grimsby's Player of the Year. Southport will listen to offers for midfielder Karl Ledsham after the player put a transfer request in. The 25 year old, who scored ten times during the last campaign, wants to try his luck in the Football League.

Worcester have seen sales of their £100 season tickets reach 450. The club held an auction of fixtures and fittings at St Georges Lane at the weekend, with scrap metal merchants now stripping the remainder of the ground. Welsh Premier clubs are set to have similar wage controls as the English leagues after the 12 top flight clubs averaged spending 81% of turnover on wages in the past season. The FAW is proposing to cut spending to 70% by 2015, and ban directors loans over £50,000.

SPL side Hearts have put their entire squad up for sale, saying they need a 'significant six-figure sum' by the weekend to meet the wage bill. The club are reported to be £25million in debt with the Lithuanian club owner already declared bankrupt. Chester boss Neil Young wants to sign three more forwards and two defenders to bolster his side. The Conf North champions have 13 players signed on so far for the coming season.

Celtic have rejected a £4.5million offer from Hull for former Bulls loanee Gary Hooper. The SPL champions want £7million for a player they rejected a £5million offer from Norwich for in January.

James Set To (Re)Join Bulls

Mid-fielder Kingsley James is set to join Hereford United. The midfielder was released by Port Vale in April after a succesfull loan spell at Edgar Street.

Manager Martin Foyle indicated at the end of last season he might offer James a deal and with Tuesday's news that Josh O'Keefe has signed, it looks that Foyle will be able to continue with the mid-field pairing.

Central Roofing To Sponsor Main Stand

Hereford United have revealed that Central Roofing are to sponsor the main stand.

Last year M And M decided to stop their sponsorship of the stand and although their name remained on the stand the club did not receive any payment.

The deal with Central Roofing is for three seasons.

"We are delighted to welcome Central Roofing as new sponsors of the main stand. We're thrilled that they have made such a financial commitment to the club over an extended period," said chairman David Keyte.

Based in Holmer Road, Hereford, Central Roofing has been in business for fifty years and were responsible for the new roof on the Starlite Rooms at Edgar Street.

Meanwhile it remains uncertain whether Cargill will continue to sponsor the Len Weston Stand.

At the recent shareholders meeting, Keyte said that Cargill were under pressure to reduce their total amount of sponsorship at Edgar Street.

Cargill were said to want to keep their name on the players shirts which was the major cost of their sponsorship.

Should Cargill decide not to sponsor the stand it's thought that Weston Cider might take their place.
